LESSON TWO: A Different Kind of Portland

Students will review the reading from Lesson 1 about Black Oregonians’ history by participating in a gallery walk. They will also listen to audio clips from the It Did Happen Here podcast to learn about Portland during the 1980s and make connections between their reading and the rise of hate groups in the 1980s. Topics discussed include Portland’ underground punk music scene during the 1980s and the activists who fought against the rise of White supremacists during that time period.
